The ND-GAIN Country Index measures climate vulnerability and adaptation readiness based upon compiled indicators. Building on the University's academic expertise, ND-GAIN surveyed recent data and literature and consulted scholars, adaptation practitioners, and global development experts to select 45 indicators. Thirty-six indicators contribute to the vulnerability score and nine indicators contribute to readiness. An overview of each indicator and the data sources used to can be explored below:
vulnerability
Measures the exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity in six life-supporting sectors: food, water, health, ecosystem services, human habitat, and infrastructure. The vulnerability score takes the simple mean of the sector scores, which are the average scores of component indicators. All measures are weighted equally.
